Evolution vs Religion

Watch this video and answer the following questions:

1. What is Dr. Juan Enriquez saying describing when he uses the term "Homo evolutis?"

2. What examples really jump out to you?

3. How is evolution like a religion?

4. What does the future hold in your opinion?

  1. 1. Because what they are doing to animals, could just as well be used on humans, to control their movements, it's awful to do that to animals, but doing things like that to humans takes it to a whole new level.

    2. The fact that they were altering animal's brains to control where they go, really seems awful to me, and especially when they altered the moth pupa so that when it emerged as a moth they could already control it. The other one that really caught my attention is when they grew AN EAR on a mouse... that just seems wrong to me.

    3. The only way I see evolution like religion is that being an evolutionist requires a lot of faith. To believe that humans came from monkeys requires faith, because there are questions like " Why aren't random monkey people found roaming around?"

    4. To me, after seeing this video, the future holds scary things. They are doing this to advanced animals, (monkeys) how long before someone decides to try something like this on a human?

  2. 1. Because what they are doing to the poor innocent animals is terrible. The technology they are using to control animals is going to get more advanced and who's to say they won't use this stuff to control humans.

    2. When they make the animals glow, I don't know if it hurts them or not but if it doesn't, they need to put it to good use instead of just doing it for the heck of it. And the whole thing with the mind control is just creepy. Why do people need to torture the animals like that? There is no reason an animal needs a chip in their head that controls their movements. Also, I get why people "clone" animals but no matter what they do, its never going to be the same. And the mouse with the ear attached to it is just terrible. Yes, its for the greater good but that mouse probably doesn't want an ear attached to it's back. Yes, its a good and smart idea but still...

    3. Evolution is like religion because these people believe strongly in what they do.

    4. I think these things are going to get more advanced. There's going to be robots that do a lot of our jobs for us. There's going to be little mind controlled mice running around. People are going to be glowing in the dark. There's going to be more advancements on what they can make grow on mice's back too.

  4. 1) It is time to question bio engineering because they are always doing stuff that we don't know do I think it is time to question bio engineering.
    2) The example that really jumped out on me was that they but computer chips into sweet little animals like pups.
3)It it like religion because we change, we lab new stuff, and like we're we cane from, and who are we for real is their anything we don't know we can do.
    4) In my opinion the future is going to be OK we are going to be different in a good way at are going to have a better understanding than know hopefully, but people are going to more into evolution then more than know.

  5. 1) Bc what they are doing is very and completely wrong. I mean come on that's just flat out torture.

    2) the ear didn't faze me. They do it to humans who get into accidents. But what really is a bit off is the mind control.

    3) they are both dangerous and should not be played with. And both people believe and have faith in what they do.

    4) the future will be absolute mess.

  6. 1 . Bio engineering can create many dangerous things so by questioning it now we can stop it. If it doesn't stop now the future will be out of control. The tests they do on animals can easily be done on humans also .

2 . The geep/ goat and sheep, the liger, roborat, glow in the dark puppies and monkeys, cloned animals.

3 . evolution includes events that didn't happen in a lab, evolutionists believe the basic categories of living things have been developed before history. While people in religions have similar beliefs that don't include history also .

4 . soon the scinetists will be able to clone humans and let them glow in the dark. We need to sto producing harmful chemicals beacuse the future will be destroyed.

  7. 1. Its kind of getting out of hand. If people are able to directly design animals to do what they want or be useful to them in some way they could very well do the same of humans, which is creepy. I don't think people should try to recreate the earth and its inhabitants. (God made the earth the way it is don't go destroying it with some unknown species.)
    2. How the scientists grow human body parts on animals then transfer them to humans. And how they wire animals to get them to do whatever they want them to do. If they can do it for animals then most likely they can do it for humans.
    3. It is believing about something that supposedly happened in the past. "Its history"
    4. The way this world is its hard to predict if there will even be a future. (my opinion)

  8. 1. Because we are making things that question our ethics. What is the point to stop with this? We are making living robots, clones, and more. But when do these things start to cross the long? These are the questions we need to ask before doing these things.

    2. The ear on the mouse it was really grotesque. But the robot animals make me question if we should just stop there or even abandon the idea of it. This is because I'm thinking of what this may lead to. What if they start making human robots that can't control there movements anymore? There is good that can come from the things in the video but also horrible disastrous things also.

    3. In some ways it is kinda like a worldly religion. But I think it is just a gateway to Atheism which is practically a religion.

    4. Well, the future in Bio Engineering has alot of advancements, most of them will be put to good use. But the future is going to be not just advancing more with making animals glow in the dark and mouse robots. The future will be testing these things on humans. The things we would do to humans will most likely be ethical, but what if it falls into someones hands without morals? The future probably won't be that different but there will be new things to fear.

  9. 1.) The fact that biogenetic engineering hasn't been questioned before is crazy to me. The idea that humans have the ability to screw around with other living beings down to their basic building blocks, such as in reproduction and DNA, and use them to our own advantage and fancy is unbelievable. From an evolutionary standpoint, we ourselves are just a "superior" animal species, yet we have the ability to make glow-in-the-dark puppies. Where did we get the right to mess with another life form? Some of the examples are disturbing as is, but if we don't stop, the consequences could be worse than we previously thought possible. Like he said in the video, this isn't science fiction anymore, this is real and happening right now.

2.) The ones that stood out to me the most were probably the monkey with the separate prosthetic arm, the "organic robot" Goliath beetles and rats, and the independently living brain. These all seem so wrong to me. I mean, the glow-in-the-dark animals have what use to us other than to, again, screw around unnecessarily with another living being? The unjustifiable use of something that doesn't inherently belong to us as a people is selfish and wrong.

3.) Evolution is a religion that has made the human race "God." Survival of the fittest has become more of a code of conduct, especially where this subject is concerned. The theory that we all evolved from the same cell and we ended up the ones with the opposable thumbs and civilization clearly indicates who "earned" the right to do what they wish with their environment and it's different inhabitants.

4.) The future won't look good if we don't stop something. This attitude of entitlement is not going to end up well for anyone or anything involved. There needs to be a stopping point, or we at least need to realize what a huge responsibility this is, and not abuse it any further.
