Jihad vs. Crusades

Currently, there is much concern over Islamic terrorism. President Obama recently made comments at the "National Prayer Breakfast" that have got some people pretty bent out of shape (See Here: People are freaking out after Obama compared ISIS to the Crusades)

1. What is the controversy with Obama's comments? Explain.

I came across this response on Youtube from a conservative blogger.  The video is short, but pay close attention to his arguments, and answer the following questions.

Jihad vs Crusades Link

2. What is the purpose of this video?

4. Do you see any problems with his argument? Explain.

5. Do you agree or disagree with his overall argument? Explain.

    1. You need to actually answer these questions. One sentence answers do not demonstrate understanding.

  2. #1 : Obama's comments weren't exactly wrong, but they were very offensive toward religion. I mean the fact is true that people have done horrible things in the name of allah and Christ. However when you compare terrorists to Christians i can see why people would get upset. I don't think anyone should put much care into most of the things Obama says anyway but that's just me. As far as I know he's not very religious so i can see why he would make a comment like that, but that does not give him any justification to compare a Christian to a terrorist.
#2: The purpose of this video I think was to show people the true facts on the subject of the Jihad and the Crusades. He is trying to get people to understand that there is no comparison between the Jihad and the Crusades. He is trying to show the difference between the two.
#3: I sort of answered that in #2. He is arguing that there is no comparison between the Jihad and the Crusades. That people who think that they are one in the same and can be compared do not understand the facts of the matter.
#4: No I really don't i mean other than the fact that he only took into account the Crusades that occurred during that specific time period. Also the fact that he says that most of the Crusade's battles were to free the Christians from the Jihad because from what I know about all of that stuff the Crusades were very offensive and were bot taking back the Holy Land than freeing the Christians in the Middle East.
#5: I agree that there really are not any comparisons to be made between the Crusades and the Jihad other than the facts that many people were killed.

  3. 1). President Obama had made some statements in the National Breakfast Prayer. Obama has offended many people. Some people might argue that Obama is even being somewhat sympathetic towards ISIS. People are mad that Obama is comparing the evil terrorist bad guys with what the Christians did a couple years ago. It's like Obama is giving ISIS a reason to the things their doing.
2 and 3). When people brings up Jihad or the Crusades, they will bring up the other. This man was showing us that you really can't compare the two. It was showing us the intent of Islam, and what the Christians were trying to do. The Islam were to trying to expand and conquer just like Muhammad, while the Crusades, at one point, were all about defending and taking back the land that was taken away from them.
4).Uh Crusades were not only for defensive stuff, saving Christians, and gaining back rightful territory, but it was intense man. Pope Innocent used the Crusades as an excuse to massacre people in a couple places.
5).I agree with most of what he said. Of course, both were inspired by religion. And also there is still some similarities, but it's obvious what that is.

  4. 1. Obama made some good statements but people are just very upset that he is comparing Christianity to Terrorists because they are doing horrible things and it's like we are better than them and he is supporting or almost saying what they are doing is okay.
    2. He is comparing Jihad and the Crusades and saying there is not much difference. I think the purpose of this video is to show how much worse of people Jihah is and was.
    3. The guy is trying to provide accurate facts and statements. He is trying to show that you can't compare these two events.
    4. The Jihad and Crusades were both terrible events, but this guy is more a less taking the Crusades side and making Jihad look worse. He doesn't even bring up what terrible things happened as a result of the Crusades and how many people died, so I disagree with what he is saying.
    5. He isn't stating all the facts so I disgaree with what he is saying. Yes both were inspired by religion but he is mostly defending the Crusades.

  5. 1. At the National Prayer Breakfast, Pres. Obama compared ISIS to the Crusades. People got mad because Obama was comparing the big, evil, terrorist dudes to the Christian Crusades.
    2. The purpose of the video is to explain the facts about Jihad and the Crusades. He is trying to show that there is no similarities between the two.
    3. He is trying to explain that there is no comparison between Jihad and the Crusades. He's saying that people that think they are the same don't have their facts straight.
    4. He seems to take a more defensive side when it comes to the Crusades, and tries to make Jihad look worse.
    5. I agree that these two things have no real comparison other than that they were inspired by religion and involved death.

  6. Obama made statements at a breakfast. He offend many people, he made them mad by siding with ISIS, and comparing the crusades to what the ISIS guys are doing. He in a way is trying to justified what ISIS is doing.
2&3) when you bring up Jihad or Crusades they bring up the other. The guy was saying that you can`t really compare the two. That Islam was/is trying to expand and conquer. While the crusades where to take back "there" land.
    4) The Crusades were not only to get land back but also to conquer. The Pope used it to rightful kill people. He also said something about to free Christians.
5)Yes with most of his stuff he said but not all.
